July 1982

Formation of the Hudson Valley Bengali Association (Mission – Celebrate the Durga Puja and other cultural activities. Informal association with no formal charter

1990

Started a bi-monthly class to introduce our children to aspects of the Bengali language and culture

In keeping with this new initiative, our organization was re-christened as the Lipilekha Bengali Association.

Subrata Das was nominated as the first President of the Association

1998-99

Formal organization of the Lipilekha Bangla Association (LBA) with an Executive Committee to conduct business formalities, oversee the Bangla Pathshala and cultural activities.

1999-present

LBA conducts 4 events annually – Saraswati Puja (February), Robi-Kobi Jayanti (May), Annual Picnic (Late Summer) and Bijoya Dashami (October/ November)

2006

Original By-Laws of the Lipilekha Bangla Association drafted

2008

Version 1 of the By-Laws of the Lipilekha Bangla Association approved

2009

LBA certified as a 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code tax exempt organization

2010

Association with Somsar (a school for underprivileged students in Bankura village of West Bengal). LBA initiates its philanthropy initiative

2012

Annual donation to the Feeding Westchester (formerly Food Bank of Westchester) begins

2010

Periodic fund raising events to support Somsar, Feeding Westchester, disaster relief events, Human crisis relief for Ukraine (floods, cyclones, earthquake etc. in India and the USA) on a needed basis

2023

Lipilekha selects Mukti (West Bengal) as its new charitable organization to support
